Product Overview

This outdoor activity table was created to spark sensory exploration and imaginative play in young children. Designed with two separate compartments for sand and water, the table invites kids to scoop, pour, and build—independently or together. Hinged lids flip open to extend the play surface and close down to keep things tidy when not in use. A removable inner tray simplifies cleanup, while integrated tools and sand molds enhance the play value. Bright, cheerful colors and smooth, rounded forms make the table approachable and fun, while weather-resistant materials ensure it’s ready for outdoor use.

Design Approach

This was one of my first projects created at  Studio PK, for Keter Plastic, and my first real encounter with designing a big product for mass market. Beyond creating a product that was fun, safe, and engaging for children, I had to think about cost-effective manufacturing, compact packaging, and user-friendly assembly.

I worked to shape a product that felt intuitive and joyful—using soft forms, accessible heights, and molded details that made sense to small hands. At the same time, I collaborated with engineers to make sure the design was optimized for plastic injection molding and efficient part nesting. The modular legs, stackable trays, and snap-in accessories were all designed with shipping and shelf presence in mind.

This project was a crash course in the realities of product design at scale—where aesthetics, usability, manufacturing, and logistics all come together. It laid a foundation for how I think about design to this day: practical, playful, and built to connect with real families.

From Sand to Creativity: Evolving a Best-Seller

Following the success of the original Sand & Water Table, we saw an opportunity to expand its potential beyond outdoor play. By introducing vibrant new colorways, adding coordinating chairs, and reimagining the table for indoor use, we transformed it into a multi-functional Creativity Table. This evolution turned the product from a seasonal outdoor toy into a year-round creative hub for kids, supporting drawing, crafting, and open-ended play.
