Project Overview

As part of my work at Tiny Love, I led the design of the award-winning Magical Tales Black & White Gymini—created to make high-quality developmental play accessible to more families, while fitting beautifully into modern homes.

The black-and-white palette served a dual purpose: it supports early visual development in newborns and reflects a growing interior design trend in children’s spaces. We assessed that parents were increasingly looking for products with fewer colors and less visual noise, which inspired the minimalist design. 

Together with our illustrator, I developed a cast of charming, graphic characters and transformed them into soft 3D dolls and toys—bringing visual storytelling to life through tactile play.

Design Approach

Guided by a minimalist, monochromatic aesthetic, I focused on creating a product that blends into a range of home interiors while supporting newborn development. 

Smart material choices and efficient manufacturing processes allowed us to maintain a premium look and feel while keeping the product affordable. The end result is a thoughtfully-designed baby gym that delivers on both function and form—one that parents can proudly display in their living spaces.

The high-contrast book was created to support early visual development through a minimalist design language. Featuring bold, geometric shapes in black-and-white, it was tailored to suit the limited visual range of newborns—helping babies focus, track movement, and begin distinguishing between patterns.

Inspired by the principles of developmental science and modern aesthetics, this book fits into a cohesive design collection while delivering cognitive benefits during a child’s first months.

Adjustable arches provide flexible positioning, ensuring easy access to the baby for parents and caregivers. 

A hanging mobile inspired by handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces—easy to manufacture yet rich in design appeal. Playful and engaging for babies to grab, wiggle, or explore with their feet. 

The Black & White Gymini became a best-seller and earned multiple awards, inspiring a full line of follow-up products—and eventually, a redesigned edition released a few years later.
