Hi!
I'm Maya Bercu, a multidisciplinary designer specializing in baby and lifestyle products that blend function, beauty, and emotional connection. I believe quality design isn’t a luxury—it should be a meaningful part of everyday life.
I guess my first doll, Raggedy Ann, was my first clue that objects could comfort and delight . I’ve dedicated my career to designing products that aim to spark that same emotional connection.
Over the years, I've had the opportunity to design products that have won multiple international awards and recognition—including the 3-in-1 Projector Mobile, for which I hold a patent. Each of these milestones reminds me why thoughtful design matters, especially when it’s made for little hands and big emotions.
My design journey began in a fast-paced design studio PK, followed by two years as a freelancer. These early experiences shaped how I think creatively and adapt quickly.
Then came 14 years as a Senior Designer at Tiny Love, a global leader in developmental baby products. There, I helped guide the brand’s evolution—from bold, brightly colored developmental toys to softer, home-friendly designs that fit into modern living spaces.
As a parent myself, I understood how important it is for children’s products to feel thoughtful—not just for the child using them, but for the adults who choose to bring them into their home. The best products support growth and development while also respecting the parent’s environment, values, and style.
That perspective became even more personal when my own children became part of the process.
Having my kids nearby—playing, testing, and offering their honest, often surprising feedback—brought a new kind of insight into every project. I loved seeing how we inspired each other: my youngest staring up at a paper mobile her brother made, or both of them reimagining toys in their own way. In a house filled with sketches and prototypes, they naturally became young product designers themselves.
As much as I love sketching and 3D modeling, nothing beats the moment a prototype comes together. Those early models—whether rough or polished—make the design come alive in ways the computer never can.
I care about design that’s both emotionally intelligent and logistically smart. I thrive on solving creative problems with practical, cost-efficient solutions—and I love collaborating with engineers, graphic designers, and other passionate thinkers.
Whether it’s bringing new ideas to life or refreshing a legacy product, I focus on making each design thoughtful, efficient, and resonant.
Based in Rockville, MD, I’m currently exploring freelance and hybrid opportunities. I’m excited to partner with teams who value collaboration, purpose-driven design, and products that truly connect with people.
Let’s create something great together!
